Our District

Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District covers the counties of Jackson, Madison, Lawrence, Morgan, Limestone, and the eastern portion of Lauderdale. Located in the heart of the Tennessee Valley, North Alabama combines a highly skilled workforce with a welcoming business climate, making it one of the South’s leading centers for industry and innovation. The district’s diverse economy thrives on agriculture, space exploration, advanced manufacturing, and a robust defense industrial base.

At its core is Huntsville, also known as Rocket City or the Propulsion Capitol of the World. Huntsville is the second largest and second-fastest growing metropolitan area in Alabama, serving as a key hub for aerospace, national defense, and research. When the nation calls on its warfighters, Huntsville answers. Redstone Arsenal serves as the premier defense installation for cutting-edge technologies that protect America from foreign threats. From ballistic missile development in the early Space Race to today’s next-generation defense systems, the Fifth District’s military and civilian engineers remain at the forefront of U.S. national security.

The district is also home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, a leader in space science, spacecraft propulsion, and ambitious exploration missions. North Alabama’s growth is driven by research and development, with more than 40,000 STEM professionals, including nearly 4,000 aerospace engineers. Cummings Research Park, the second-largest research park in the United States and fourth largest worldwide, hosts over 300 companies and thousands of highly trained employees.

Beyond its industrial and scientific strengths, Alabama’s fifth district offers breathtaking natural beauty. Mountains, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls make the region a destination for outdoor recreation. State parks, hiking trails, and campgrounds offer residents and visitors countless opportunities to experience Alabama the Beautiful.

The Tennessee Valley’s rural communities are home to some of the most popular tourist destinations the South has to offer. From Lake Guntersville and the Jesse Owens Museum to Bankhead National Forrest and Joe Wheeler State Park, rural North Alabama offers rich history and an array of recreational opportunities.

The Fifth District hosts some of the finest institutions of higher learning in the state. The University of Alabama in Huntsville, J.F. Drake State Community & Technical College, Alabama A&M University, Athens State University, Northeast Alabama Community College, and Calhoun Community College are incubators of talent that have built a thriving workforce.

Agriculture remains a vital economic driver, with the district ranking among Alabama’s top producers of beef and dairy cattle, corn, cotton, and soybeans. Every community carries a rich agribusiness heritage that still shapes the region.

A facilitator of commerce, the Port of Huntsville is an essential asset to North Alabama’s position as an economic powerhouse. The Port is home to our region’s inland port facility that integrates air, rail, and highway transportation. Along with the airport hosting the second largest runway in the Southeast, the Port offers industry an efficient means of moving product to market.

From advanced rocketry and defense innovation to fertile farmland and scenic landscapes, Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District offers unmatched contributions to both the state and the nation.
