Congressman Dale Strong denounces Chinese Community Party’s use of Surveillance Balloon

WASHINGTON— Congressman Dale W. Strong (AL-05) is taking action to show the importance of defending our homeland security following the flagrant violation of sovereign U.S. airspace by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Congressman Strong joined Republican members of the House Committee on Homeland Security – which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) - in sending a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In the letter, members of the Committee detail concerns regarding the Biden Administration’s failure to defend our homeland and, moreover, to inform Members of Congress of the threat in a timely manner.

The Committee is requesting answers from the department regarding DHS’ role in identifying, assessing, and tracking the balloon threat. “I consider a Chinese Communist Party surveillance balloon flying over U.S. airspace an invasion and serious threat to our homeland security. The belated response by the Biden Administration is baffling and unacceptable. The American people deserve answers as to why this threat was not taken seriously,” said Congressman Dale Strong.

Additionally, the Congressman voted to pass a resolution condemning the CCP's brazen violation of United States sovereign territory.

This resolution, H.Res.104, passed the House of Representatives unanimously on Thursday, and denounces the actions of the CCP and their efforts to engage in intellectual collection or other malign activities within United States territory and airspace.
