WASHINGTON— Congressman Dale W. Strong (AL-05) issued the following statement on the debt ceiling compromise passed today by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“When I ran for Congress, one of my top priorities was to stop the out-of-control Washington spending. We cannot let Joe Biden continue to spend future generations into further debt. I voted against this debt limit increase because I want to send a clear message that we cannot keep doing business as usual in Washington or we will bankrupt our country.

I understand that only controlling one-half of one-third of the federal government means conservatives would not be able to get everything they wanted at the negotiation table; but I expected more.

While this deal has some good pieces, it isn’t close to being whole. I believe that conservatives could have gotten more in exchange for suspending Biden’s debt ceiling for two years. We must put America first—and for that reason, I could not support this bill.”
