Strong remarks at HASC Space Command Basing Process Hearing

September 28, 2023

WASHINGTON— Representative Dale W. Strong (AL-05) joined his colleagues in the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) to question key Department of Defense (DoD) witnesses regarding the irregularity in the strategic basing process for U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM).

The Committee’s leadership also announced plans to request a new DoD Inspector General to investigate the Biden administration’s decision to keep the nation’s newest combatant command in Colorado, against the advice of the Air Force’s Strategic Basing Team.

HASC witnesses were Air Force Secretary, Frank Kendall, Space Command Commander, General James Dickinson, and Chief of Space Operations, General Chance Saltzman.

The Biden administration chose to play politics and cited alleged workforce retention concerns as an issue for relocating the temporary USSPACECOM headquarters from Colorado to its permanent location in Alabama. Today’s hearing debunked that claim – operations and readiness will not be jeopardized when USSPACECOM moves to Alabama.

Rep. Strong’s hearing questions keyed in on workforce retention, a concern of General Dickenson, cost assessments, and issues with space and facilities in Colorado Springs.
