Strong Supports Speaker McCarthy

October 3, 2023

WASHINGTON— Today, the House of Representatives voted on a ‘motion to vacate’ Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Congressman Dale W. Strong (AL-05) voted to support McCarthy and bring unity to the party.

“Today, 97% of Republicans in the House voted to abandon this Washington parlor game so that we can resume the consideration of conservative, single-subject funding bills. In my short time in Washington, I have seen that some members are here to fight on behalf of the conservative values of their constituents and others here for sound bites. Today, I supported our speaker because we have a narrow window to finish our work on the appropriations process, and discord within our conference threatens our ability to put conservative legislation on the president’s desk,” said Representative Dale Strong.

Background:

Last week, 21 Republican members joined all 211 Democrats in opposing H.R. 5525, a bill which provided for 30-days of funding, while at the same time, reducing federal domestic discretionary spending by 30%, permanently securing our nation’s borders, protecting defense and veterans’ funding, and establishing a fiscal commission to address the biggest drivers of our national debt.

In recent weeks, the House has also debated hundreds of amendments and passed legislation that would provide more than $2 billion for border wall construction while also protecting our national defense by replenishing our depleted weapons stocks and ending woke distractions in our military so our men and women in uniform can focus on defending our homeland.

The House has now passed four full-year appropriations bills. The Senate has passed zero.
