Strong supports Spending Reduction and Border Security Act to fund Federal Government

September 29, 2023

WASHINGTON— Today, Congressman Dale W. Strong (AL-05) voted in support of H.R. 5525—Spending Reduction and Border Security Act. With the fiscal year ending tomorrow night, a stop-gap measure is necessary to keep the government open while Congress continues to work through the appropriations process.

H.R. 5525 proposed to keep the government open for an additional 30-days, while at the same time, reducing federal domestic discretionary spending by 30%, permanently securing our nation’s borders, protecting defense and veterans’ funding, and establishing a fiscal commission to address the biggest drivers of our national debt.

“Today, 90% of House Republicans voted to cut spending, protect our borders, and address our nation’s crippling debt in exchange for 30 days of reduced government funding. 100% of Democrats voted to shut the government down.

The House spent this week debating hundreds of amendments and passing legislation that would provide more than $2 billion for border wall construction while also protecting our national defense by replenishing our depleted weapons stocks and ending woke distractions in our military so our men and women in uniform can focus on defending our homeland. Yet, our work is not finished. This is why I supported the Spending Reduction and Border Security Act today,” said Representative Dale Strong.

The House has now passed four full-year appropriations bills. The Senate has passed zero.
